Year 11 spearhead donating to make a difference
The last week of April became #RipleyCharitiesWeek2022 in aid of raising funds for Ukraine. This was spearheaded by the Year 11 senior student team who were incredibly passionate about raising money for this cause. They organised some events themselves and lots of departments volunteered to run events alongside.
Here’s a quick rundown on how the week went:
- #makeadifferencemonday (How our donations will make a difference). The Ukraine flag was flying high thanks to Mr Bush and Mr Henderson and the Appreciation Station was open for business 🍫 Everyone made a donation to buy a treat for someone they appreciated! 🍭…
- On #useyourtalentstuesday (which celebrities have used their talents to help? How could you use yours?) the Art department held a popular Clay Monster Workshop at lunchtime for all year groups. Scary stuff! PLUS our Year 8 kept the talent running with their after-school Rounders Tournament.
- On #workoutwednesday (How sports have reacted and responded) we absolutely loved watching @RipleySport’s Mr Greenacre and Mr Barton take on new personas in goal for the Penalty Shootout 😆
- On #thankfulthursday (what can we be thankful for and what could we donate) the Maths Charity Challenge was a great success raising £75.52 towards our #Ripleycharitiesweek2022 total👏
Well done to our winner Madie P in 7Tailyour who received an Amazon Gift voucher for £15 from Miss Montgomery!
PLUS our Y10/11 kept the spirit going with their after-school Rounders Tournament
- #funditfriday (Total raised so far, where the funds are going to) saw Mrs Potter from the MFL department make and sell fabulous Peace for Ukraine badges and in a slight change of plan we were finally able to sell the ribbons for Ukraine on Friday at the Concert for Ukraine. A big thank you to Lauren, her mum, and the senior students for making these!
Our brilliant running total so far is £750.19 but this is increasing every day as donations are still coming in!
Mrs Pinder was delighted with the hard work of Year 11 pupils and contributions from the whole school:
“Everything was a great success, I’m so pleased with all the events that took place! Thank you so much to the Art, Music, Maths, English, MFL and PE departments and all staff and site team but most of all to our dedicated Year 11 seniors who got the ball rolling in such a positive way.”
The senior students have chosen two causes which they wish to donate the funds to: The Disasters Emergency Committee (https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal) and to the Ukranian Refugee Donations at Garstang Free Methodist Church who have strong links to a church in Rivne, Ukraine.
