Sixth Form

Admissions Policy

Applications for admission to the Sixth Form are welcome from all Year 11 students.  Students must meet the Sixth Form entry requirement and the specific course requirements for their chosen courses.  Information regarding the Sixth Form application process, including details of entry requirements, is included in the Apply and Courses menus  of the Sixth Form  section of this website.

The number of places available to students across our Sixth Form is approximately 400.

All pupils in Year 11 at Ripley St Thomas Academy, who meet the Sixth Form entry requirement and the specific course requirements of the subjects they choose, will be offered a place in the Sixth Form.

Each year, we admit around 80 pupils from other schools.  This number may be exceeded if the demand for available courses can be met.

GCSE results will be used as an over-subscription criterion should this prove necessary. An applicant who is not successful in gaining a place on a chosen course due to over-subscription, will be asked to choose an alternative course and be placed on a waiting list for the course they applied for.

The school reserves the right to withdraw a course that does not recruit sufficient numbers.  In the event of a course being withdrawn, applicants will be informed and asked to make an alternative choice.

Late Applications

Students making late applications may be asked to provide a reserve choice of course at enrolment in the event of over-subscription of one or more of their chosen courses.
