Ripley+ Awards Day

At the end of the Autumn term, Mrs Walmsley and Mr Quarry spoke to Year 11 in assembly about the opportunity to gain the distinguished Ripley+ Award, an award which recognises pupils for the service and leadership skills that they have developed during the past few years at Ripley. On Thursday 29th June, we were able to present such awards in the Chapel.

This award has its roots in the history and faith of our school when our founders used to award gold medals to pupils who had shown the qualities which make the ‘finest man and woman’. Today it continues to play an important part of developing our young people and helping them to flourish.

Our pupils have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities from sport and music to the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and charity work; the Ripley+ award recognises those who have demonstrated commitment to developing themselves beyond the requirements of timetabled lessons.

The ceremony involved a very relaxed start to proceedings with award winners and family members gathering in the chapel to hear Mr Goddard, Headteacher, Mr Wilson, Y11 Progress Leader and past Chair of Governors Mrs Garnett deliver uplifting words  and praise for our young people. All pupils who have met the criteria for the award received a Ripley+ silver medal and Scott Freeman and Abigail Woodhouse received the Headteacher’s gold medal for outstanding service to the school. The sun was shining throughout and we held refreshments out on the lawn before the end of the ceremony and the pupils left to make themselves beautiful for their evening prom.

We know this year group have missed out on such a lot in the last few years, so we wanted to ensure they had the chance to receive this special award which we hope will be a keepsake for them to treasure in future years.
