KS3 celebrate Shakespeare in the sunshine
On Thursday 22 June, at the unearthly hour of 5.30am, pupils across KS3, from years 7, 8 and 9, travelled to Stratford for a couple of days immersion in all things Shakespeare. Six Year 12 students also assisted the group in order to build their leadership skills.
The morning began with a Macbeth-themed staged combat workshop led by members of the RSC- pupils learned how to fight onstage without actually hurting themselves or each other! They also toured behind the scenes at the RSC theatre itself including the costume department and ‘The Other Place’ which hosts productions from lesser known playwrights.
The group then went off to Pizza Express for tea before returning back to the RSC to watch a Shakespeare comedy – As You Like It, arriving back at the Holiday Inn Express Warwick- Stratford late Thursday evening.
On Friday, Sixth Form leaders gave pupil groups a guided tour of the Shakespeare Walk- visiting Shakespeare’s house and the church where his line are buried. We also had a tour of Shakespeare’s house and Shakespeare’s New Place before coming home tired but happy on Friday evening (23rd June).
It was a wonderful trip- all pupils, students and teachers had a fantastic time celebrating Shakespeare in the sunshine!
