Adventurous Year 7 enjoy Geography Residential

On Friday 5th May a group of Year 7 students attended a 2-night residential at Castlehead Field Study Centre designed to complement the KS3 Geography Curriculum but also allow them to explore the subject in a more adventurous way.

To enhance their current topic on rivers, the group took part in some river fieldwork exploring how rivers change as you move downstream but they also enjoyed some more adventurous activities such as orienteering, canoeing and raft building.

The highlight of the weekend for many was the ghyll scrambling in Church Beck near Coniston. This involved both the staff and students donning waterproofs and buoyancy aids to then walk up the river, climb its waterfalls and jump into the many plunge pools along the way.

Great feedback on social media from parents too!

“Thank you so much, Imogen loved it, particularly when Mr Demet fell in backwards off the rock!”

“Thank you all for taking the time to take them and all the other preparations involved – Matthew had a great time!”

“Thanks so much. Bethany had an amazing weekend! Thanks to all the staff!”

“Great opportunities to build friendships and try new things. Making memories.”
