Year 9 WW1 Immersive Experience

On Friday 17th October, Year 9 pupils had a unique opportunity to bring their First World War studies to life through two immersive sessions led by the Lancashire Heritage Learning Team.
The Nurses’ Session (held in the JCL) offered a vivid insight into the medical side of WW1. Pupils learnt about the nature of battlefield injuries and the challenges faced by nurses treating wounded soldiers—an eye-opening glimpse into the realities of wartime care.
The Drill Sergeant Session (held in the Phythian Hall) gave pupils a taste of basic military training. They practised drill routines and explored WW1 military equipment, gaining a deeper appreciation for the discipline and demands of soldier life.
These sessions provided an unforgettable way to consolidate classroom learning, helping pupils connect with history through hands-on experience and storytelling. A truly memorable day that brought the past vividly into the present!
