Year 7 Shine in the Routes into Languages National French Spelling Bee

Our Year 7 pupils have once again embraced the challenge of the Routes into Languages National French Spelling Bee.

The competition begins with class heats before moving on to a school final at, with the top three pupils earning a place in the semi‑finals held in Liverpool at the end of March.

This year, 19 pupils progressed to the Ripley finals round after winning their individual class competitions. Each of these pupils has been working hard to master 150 French words, demonstrating impressive commitment. During the competition, they are given one minute to hear an English word, say it in French, and then spell it aloud using the French alphabet – a demanding task that requires both accuracy and speed.

We are delighted to announce the names of our three winners: Hannah, Johanna, and Theo, who have triumphed in round 2 and will now represent the school at the Stage 3 Regional Final at Liverpool University later this month. They will now take on an even greater challenge, learning 200 French words in preparation for the next stage of the competition.

We are incredibly proud of all the pupils who took part and wish our finalists the very best as they prepare for the regional finals.
