Year 7 Author Event: Tom Palmer

On Wednesday 10th September, Year 7 attended their first ever author event!

On their transition day, our Year 7 pupils were given their transition book, Angel of Grasmere by Tom Palmer, to read over the summer break before they started at Ripley.

Angel of Grasmere is a gripping wartime tale that explores trauma, kindness, hope, and loss. Set in the fells around Grasmere, not too far a drive from Lancaster, this excellent story touches on strands of real history from the WWII period. With this, we were absolutely delighted to welcome Tom Palmer into school yesterday for Year 7’s first author event.

Our pupils arrived thoroughly prepared with thoughtful questions for Tom, making the most of the opportunity to gain deeper insights not only into the book itself, but also into the sources of inspiration behind Tom’s writing and his journey as an author.

Following Tom’s talk and a Q&A, there was also the exciting opportunity for pupils to have their book signed!

Tom’s talk provided pupils a real life example of building a career driven by self-belief, ambition, creativity and passion. Our Year 7’s left the event feeling inspired, motivated, and eager to read more!

Thank you Tom, and well done Year 7 for your fantastic participation.
