Special Summer for Sixth Form Psychology Interns
Five of our Year 12 Psychology Students were selected for a prestigious Psychology Internship with The University of Central Lancashire over the summer break.
Developed by senior lecturers, the internship was designed to enable students going into Year 13 to get a taste of what carrying out undergraduate level research is like, supporting them in their decision-making process as they approach the UCAS deadline.
Gracie McLoughlin, Georgia Forrester-Adams, Zunaira Naz, Aayushi Ranjan and Ben Staveley worked with students from Runshaw College and Winstanley College to learn about specialist lab equipment used in cutting-edge Psychological research such as eye-tracking software (e-fit criminal profiling technology) and how to measure a person’s brainwaves using an EEG.
The experience really enhanced the skills they are learning at A Level and gave them an insight into what being an undergraduate Psychology student would be like, fostering their independent learning skills and developing their network of contacts.
Georgia said, “I really enjoyed my time at UCLAN studying Psychology as it offered me a new insight into the subject. From learning how to make a lab report to taking part in actual studies it gave me an in-depth, first-hand look into what studying at university is really like, as well as meeting some wonderful people who also enjoyed the internship.”
Mr. Vernon said, “All of our students attended for the full two-weeks, and came back with a renewed appreciation for the A Level Specification, and plenty of transferrable skills to reference in their UCAS personal statements. I’m very proud of their achievements and hope to send even more Year 12 students next summer.”
