Ripley Rugby Boys on Twickenham Tour
Well, Storm Bert didn’t stop our resilient London Rugby teams as Messrs Barton, Wilson, Quarry and Greenacre joined Year 8 and 9 boys on a 3-day national and international rugby extravaganza!
We had an early start from school on Saturday 23 November, beating the worst of the weather to arrive at Campion School in Hornchurch in Essex, straight into matches for both teams. We saw excellent play resulting in wins for both teams. Year 9 coasted to victory with a 32 – 0 win and Year 8 came out on top with a 35-30 win.
Boosted by wins, we moved on to our accommodation for the next 2 nights at the YHA Lee Valley Hostel in Cheshunt, which was very good with excellent food!
After a good sleep and a hearty breakfast, Sunday morning saw the teams pitching against each other bowling. Our top bowlers were Aaron T in Year 8 and Jacob S in Year 9. Well done lads!
The highlight of the weekend was the international between England and Japan at Twickenham and we were thrilled to see England win on 59-14.
The day was not over – back to the hostel for chilli and rice followed by Mr B’s quiz. Winners were Team KFC (Year 8 Aaron T (again), Isaac R, Olly L and Josh M). We also had a predicted score competition for the England match and our winners were Year 9 Jacob S (again), and Year 8’s Henry D, Josh M and Buddy P.
Back to the serious stuff for Monday morning as we moved on to Watford Grammar School for our next fixtures. The boys gave their all but just not enough left in the tank to clinch wins, falling behind to some strong teams by 17-46 (Year 9) and 15-30 (Year 8).
Back on the bus to sunny Lancaster after a fun-packed team-building weekend down south, we were very proud of the boys who were amazing company and a credit to themselves and perfect Ripley ambassadors.
Roll on London Rugby Tour 2025!
