Remembrance Day 2025

Today, our school community came together in solemn reflection to mark Remembrance Day. At 11am, pupils and staff across the school paused to observe the two-minute silence, honouring the service and sacrifice of all those who have given their lives in conflict.

Pupils were able to watch the CCF parade live via Zoom, bringing the ceremony directly into their classrooms. The full contingent (70 inc staff) attended the service yesterday; this has been the first year that Hawk flight (new cadets) has been invited to attend and represent the school and CCF due to their high standards and commitment they have shown since they joined just before summer.

In addition, selected students performed The ‘Last Post’ and ‘The Reveille’ from different locations around the site, ensuring the poignant sounds of remembrance could be heard throughout the school.

“We are standing at this time on this special day to remember all those who have given their lives for our country in both world wars and in many other conflicts around the world.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, we remember with gratitude all those who gave up their lives in the service of this country, especially those from this school and city. We pray for those who still grieve their loss and mourn their passing. We pray for those who continue to serve our country in areas of conflict across the globe. We pray for their safety and for their families at home who wait anxiously for news. We bring to you our troubled and divided world. We pray for world leaders, that they will seek and pursue peace for the good of all people. Amen.

Following the parade and the two-minute silence, the CCF, accompanied by several members of staff, attended a pupil-led service in the Chapel. Johnny, the Church Verger, and Caleb, Head Chorister, took the initiative to approach Flight Lieutenant CCF Contingent Commander S. Atkinson to discuss organising the service. Their collaboration resulted in a truly moving and impeccably delivered tribute, honouring those who have been lost. The service was a testament to the compassion, leadership, and maturity of the young people involved.

On Remembrance Sunday, Ripley CCF also attended, by invite of Lancaster’s Mayor, the Remembrance Day parade.

The contingent attended the priory service with Cadet Sergeant Jenny Bowyer being asked to conduct a prayer during the ceremony. The contingent formed up to join all participants of the parade and march through the streets of Lancaster to reach the remembrance gardens at Lancaster town hall. The mayor lead the service and invited all to pay their respects. Cadet Warrant Officer Victoria Pasztor laid the poppy wreath on behalf of Ripley St Thomas and the CCF. Cadet Sergeant George Baxter held the position of the Banner.
