Imogen takes on an exceptional challenge for Alder Hey

Following eye surgery, Imogen was unable to take part in many of the activities she enjoys, including horse riding and other pursuits that carried a risk of injury. Rather than allowing these restrictions to define her summer, she chose to focus on what she could do. Imogen took on the Alder Hey Summer Challenge, walking 43 miles over six to seven weeks to raise valuable funds for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, an organisation with which our family has a deeply personal connection.

Not only did Imogen reach her original target, she exceeded it in spectacular fashion. Encouraged by her progress, she set herself a new goal of walking more than 100 miles. By the end of the holiday period, she had covered an incredible 108 miles and raised more than £385. Her commitment to the challenge remained unwavering, even while on holiday in Rome, where she continued adding to her total rather than taking a break from her efforts.

This achievement is particularly meaningful because of Imogen’s personal connection to Alder Hey. Shortly after she was born, doctors discovered a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) in her heart. At just three months old, her condition became life-threatening and she underwent seven hours of open-heart surgery. Thanks to the expertise, care and support she received, the operation was a success and Imogen is now a thriving twelve-year-old.

Through this challenge, Imogen has provided a wonderful example of the Ripley Values in action. The way she responded to a difficult situation with positivity and purpose reflects the spirit of Hope that sits at the heart of our community. At the same time, her decision to support a hospital that played such an important role in her own life demonstrates a deep sense of gratitude and compassion, putting Love and Service into meaningful action for the benefit of others.

Imogen’s fundraising journey has not ended with the summer challenge. She will continued to support Alder Hey by raising both funds and awareness for the life-changing work the hospital carries out for children and families across the UK.

We are incredibly proud of Imogen and the example she has set. By turning a personal experience into an opportunity to give back, she has shown how one person’s actions can make a genuine difference while embodying the values that are so important to life at Ripley.
