Holocaust Memorial Day Webcast 2025 – For a Better Future

On Wednesday 22nd January 2025, Ripley St Thomas Sixth Form students had the opportunity to participate in a live Holocaust survivor testimony broadcast with Mala Tribich MBE, to mark the 80th anniversary of Holocaust commemorations since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the former Nazi concentration and death camp.

Year 12 History students took part in a workshop prior to the broadcast and followed by another immediately afterwards. The workshops were led by Year 12 students, Pawel and Josh, who participated in the Holocaust Educational Trust ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ project.

Each year’s Holocaust Memorial Day has a different theme, decided on by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, as a focus for educational and commemorative events. The theme for 2025 is ‘For a Better Future’.

Giving students the opportunity to join in the live webcast, enables them to place a human face to the histories they learn and can engage with one survivor’s personal experiences.

During the webcast, there was an opportunity to ask Mala some questions using the Question Box on the microsite. They were then able to reflect on the experience of hearing Mala’s testimony and discuss the issues raised during a workshop lead by Pawel and Josh afterwards.
