Great Yorkshire Show trip!
Our Food Technology staff had the most amazing day with 58 pupils from Years 10 and 12 who are studying Food Preparation and Nutrition and Animal Care, at the Great Yorkshire Show at Harrogate on Tuesday 11th July.
The Great Yorkshire Show is known as one of the best agricultural shows in the UK, welcoming 140,000 people to the 250-acre showground. The four-day show celebrates agriculture, food, farming and countryside with a respect for tradition while welcoming new additions.
After an early start from school they arrived to explore the vast array of food and agricultural displays showcasing the best of British farming, food and the countryside.
The Tuesday programme included:
- Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Goats and Rabbit classes
- Beagles and Harriers, Hives and Honey
- Milking and Shearing competitions
- Forestry and Woodland crafts demonstrations
- Sheep dog trials
- New agricultural technology and research of interest to our pupils who live on farms
- Art shows
- The Great Yorkshire Cookery Theatre
- Cheese, Dairy and wine events
- Flowers and Horticulture including the Garden Show
- Live music and of course shopping!
We absolutely love that Thomas B brought back a stowaway – virtually within 20 minutes of being there, he won a rather large pig which he had to carry around all day. He had his own spare seat on the coach! All in all, an amazing day out and the staff managed a selfie at the ITV stand too!
