Sixth Form Admissions

We welcome applications from Year 11 students at Ripley St Thomas and from students studying in other schools. There is no catchment area for The Sixth Form at Ripley St Thomas and students regularly commute from areas including Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, Carnforth, Garstang, Preston, Pilling, Fleetwood and Blackpool. Details of travel links, including bus services, are available to view on the Travel pages. Limited car parking facilities are available for those who wish to drive to Sixth Form.

Entry Requirements

We require 5 A*-Cs at GCSE including GCSE English and/or Mathematics for admission. In addition, individual subjects have their own entry requirements. Details of individual subject requirements can be found on the Individual Subject Information Sheets, links to which are provided below.

Sixth Form Courses

At Ripley St Thomas we offer 24 A Level courses and one BTEC course. Students take four subjects to AS Level in Year 12 and continue with three of these in Year 13. In addition we offer General Studies and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in Year 13. Click here for Sixth Form Prospectus.

A Level Reform

From September 2015, some A level courses which we offer are being reformed nationally in the way they are assessed. They will follow a linear format which means that all the assessment for the A level will be at the end of the 2 year course. These subjects are: Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, English Language and Literature, History, Physics, Psychology and Sociology.

All students will continue to take AS exams in all subjects at the end of Year 12 but the AS results in these new linear format subjects will not count towards the overall grade. More detailed information about subject specifications is given in the individual subject information sheets.

Students will be given guidance at interview following their application to support them in making decisions about linear and current modular subjects. Click here for Individual Subject Information Sheets.

Open Evening for The Sixth Form

This is on Thursday 4 February 2016 from 5.00pm. We invite you to come along to see for yourself the great opportunities that we offer as a sixth form.

When to Apply

Our admissions process begins in February, launched at our Open Evening on Thursday 4 February 2016. Option blocks will also be released at the evening. At this point, prospective students can apply online using the link below or download an application form and submit by post. Candidates are requested to select four AS Level subjects for study in Year 12. Applications should be received by Thursday 11 February. Click here to Apply.

After receiving the application, Sixth Form Tutors will arrange an interview with each applicant to discuss their choices.

To ease the transition to sixth form we offer two induction days in June for students to experience sixth form life when they will sample lessons in their chosen subjects, practise study and research skills and receive preparatory work for the summer.
